Hi,I assume you are talking about housing a juvenile tortoise? If so, no, don't waste your money.

For hatchlings here, if they aren't outside (where they belong) we use surgical towels. Cheap, they love to dig and scratch on them....can climb over and hide under them...they're safe, cheap, and reusable.

Sand...may not give a juvenile tortoise the "traction" it needs to build good leg muscles...because this is not the same type of sand found in deserts and other semi-arid habitats. Sand in thew wild can be compact, firm, and difficult to dig through, where something like packaged sand isn't.


This type of sand can also adhere to food items, and ingestion can be a concern.
