I had that last winter, but this winter I got
the Active UV heat bulbs, puts out like 10 times as
much UV as Repti-Sun's bulb, from a much greater
distance and more evenly. It's link is on my
site under "Links" Active UV, check it out,for
$50, it's worth it. It took about a week and
suddenly Teddy seemed to get "hit" by it, having
been in a slump of boredom due to an extremely
sorry long winter this year!
The D3 is great but not useful until they can
process it which is what the UV provides, processing
ability.
Also, provide a big enough cage for heat gradient
and you can go between 70-100+ easily. Mine doesn't
bother in the cooler area except to eat, thats'
where I keep his greens on a large flower
pot there, he spends all day moving between the
warm and very warm sections, basking under the
UV light and goofing around with me. I keep his
cage warm enough at night also.
Do you only have the 5.0 (not much heat there) and
a spot light? Then he may not be spending enough
time in the too hot spot area.
I use a 160 watt flood Active UV bulb, 100 watt
flood, and a 150 watt ceramic heater (on thermostat)
for my cage (300 gallons).
I know EJ uses these too.
Have you tried those cactus pads that tcc sells
(link on my "Links" page to Turtlecafe)
Try more grass clippings, actually growing grass
(er, that would be for tortoises, like clovers,
buckwheat and grass mixes).
Lastly, as far as pyramiding, I dont' know
seems that diet plays a part, but there are
so many exceptions, I don't think there's a
definite answer, like human diets, every few
years they change everything they say about
fat, carbs, this and that.
