I think you should keep the conditions just as they are. If you were going to adjust anything the low end might come down to 75 but I don't think 80 is bad. Be sure there is always water available. I place a 1/4 to 1/2 inch high dish at the cool end. The high end is important, Particularly with rehabing a tortoise. As far as food types go, your grocery should have prepackaged greens in the produce section called 'spring mix' It has a good mixture of the kind of greens you should be feeding the little guy. Try to get some cuttlebone for the tortoise also. That should get you going until you do some further research.
A suggestion in that direction. Try doing a web search using Google buy going to Google.com Type in Geochelone sulcata and watch what you come up with. You will find more info than you ever dreamed existed.
Have fun.

: Dang, just discovered this board, it's great. In a nutshell here is Pebbles story...She is a 5 year old sulcata and only 6 inches long. Her former "owner" only fed her canned veggies, no heat no light and no water EVER! He told me she is from areas where there is no water so she doesn't need it! Needless to say her shell is extremly bumpy. I took her my reptile vet, because she had an upper respitory infection. We got that treated with 2 weeks of shots. She also received some vitamen shots. She has perked up some but still wont eat. I have her in a 3 foot by 3 foot homemade enclosure, with UV/B lighting and a basking light. The temp is 100 under the basking light and is 80-82 at the other side. For now she is on newspaper with shredded white papertowels and a hide box. I will change this later, but for now I am monitoring her closly. She has pooped once in 3 weeks. On Jan 2 she ate 3 bites of yellow squash. I've tried carrots, romaine, bananas, greenpepper, collards, and alfalfa. I'm under 2 feet of snow so some food items are not an option.I also soak her 2-3 times a week. HELP! any suggestions to get her to eat? I raise 3 types of box turtles and hingebacks and have an elongated tortoise, but sulcatas are new to me. Thanks for any suggestions. D. Michelson
