to russian or not to russian?

Hi, I have a friend who never had much luck with sulcatas, and I want to get a tortoise. Can anyone with Russians or that has had both tell me if one is more manageable than the other? And also, how big do Russians get? Any info would be helpful. What are some major differences other than looks? Thanks!
