Lisa...we keep our two sulcatas outside 24/7 but we're in So. Calif. Right now this morning at posting time our temp out side is 40F. We have ours housed separately in dogloos with ceramic heat lamps over them. Last year we also had pig blankets on a rheostat to keep the temp down really low underneath but it always worried me. What we did this year was make sure they have a good packed flooring of timothy hay and then loose hay to go under. We hang a thermonmeter in each house and keep an eye on it. They are housed under a covered patio and we hang a blanket over the doors of the dogloos. Depending on the predicted temps the door is covered slightly to completely. We don't cover until around 11 at night, that way we can get a feel of how far to cover. The big one, the male usually lays closer to the door but the female, half his size lays way back in the dogloo. We got our pig blankets from a mail order out here in San Diego. They shipped really fast but again that was a couple of years ago and we're only a few hundred miles north of them. If you're interested, I'll look for the mail order and possibly e mail address for them.
: I am concerned about keeping Virgil in the 70 degree range overnight. Who has used what and what are the advantages/disadvantages of that method? How warm to the pig blankets get and do they come with a thermostat of some type?
