That sounds about right. The different books
and care sheets I've read indicate they are
omnivorous and eat a fair amount of insect matter.
Most indicate giving protein once a week.
I've never seen anything that gives exact protein
requirements for any turtle or tortoise. The usual approach is to
basically feed the animal roughly what it might eat in the wild and check its
progress. With captive omnivorous tortoises, most
people seem to feel safer by erring on the side
of too little protein, since excess protein can
have negative effects on the animal's health.
I have a bell's hatchling and I give it an
earthworm and some mealworms once a week, and
maybe a couple turtle sticks or dragon pellets
another time. The rest of the diet is chopped
greens, veggies, fruits, and low-protein tortoise pellets. As it gets older I'll cut back on
the proportion of animal protein.
