: After reading a post yesterday about a sick tortoise and calci-sand I had to ask the question.... Why do the makers of this product advertise it as being good for reptiles when clearly it's not. The post had a number of individuals saying that their torts got impacted with this stuff... and I have first hand experience, my boyfriend's bearded dragon also got impacted and nearly died from the sand. So I guess my question is, don't the makers realize the detrimental affects that it can have on these poor creatures?
I totally agree, but for a different reason. I have a Bells hingeback and after about a week on this Calci-sand, I noticed a small lesion on one of the folds on her neck. After a trip to the vet, we came to find out several small pieces sand were lodged in the fold and were slowly causing an abrasion on her neck, it was nasty. Needless to say I switched back to my old bedding and now she's doing great!
