As you can imagine, administering medication unnecessarily can cause disruption in regular system functions. I know especially administering anti-parasite meds like Flagyl or Metronidazole can eliminate the natural bacteria in the digestive system which can, in turn, cause loss of appetite, etc. I still have to go on record and say I certainly don't recommend it. Plus, in order to effectively treat worms, you must first have the stool analyzed for the kinds of worms and then treat those types accordingly. Keep in mind that there really is no reason NOT to offer your tortoise the benefit of a vet visit. Trying to save money by doing it yourself will many time backfire at the expense of the animal.
