Thanks for your responses. I'll follow the care sheet and personal comments some have emailed me with. It looked pathetic until I soaked him. Saw that the water container was too high for him and must have been a struggle to climb in. Tomorrow I'll ask my neighbor if I could gain full responsibility and take over its care in my home. I'll post an update on its progress. And who said lizard people and tortoise people couldn't get along? Thanks all!- John A
