I've read that it takes 15 days for a tortoise to digest a meal.
I have a star tortoise that passed some pink urates. I've seen this before but never really knew what it was (yes, I was a little concerned). 15 days prior to this (almost to the day) I recalled feeding them some dandelion greens. I also recalled some discussion on one of the other lists on how dandelion greens might be responsible for the pink/light brown urates. It was a neat indicator on the length of time for digestion to take place. (roughly 15 days)
(I know, more than you needed to know.)

: I think he has finally settled in and each morning when he wakes up (for the past 3 days) he has immediately gone to his fresh clippings and eaten. He has been here for 2 weeks now and has only pooped once (which the vet checked). Am I expecting too much? Is he eating it before I see it? He does not appear ill. Has he not eaten enough on a regular basis to get into a rhythm? (That question seems a tad gross.) How much are other hatchlings (3 months old) pooping?
