Hi,
dry food such as tortoise pellets are not recommended for sulcatas. They are too high in protein for a species which requires a low protein diet, such as sulcatas.
Timothy or Orchard hay can be fed, but not exclusively the tortoise also requires some wetter foods. And the hay is very tough for tiny baby sulcatas.
Romaine lettuce is an available food and can be fed, so can endive, escarole, dandelions, chicory and a small amount of collard greens can be mixed in.
Romaine and endive are both readily available in the veggie/lettuce section of the supermarket and can make up the base of the diet for an indoor sulcata.
But other foods should also be added, such as ground up timothy hay and other recommended leafy greens.
You can also grow some foods indoors, go to Turtle Cafe where you can order seeds to grow grasses etc indoors for your tortoise.
I'm sure others who have to overwinter their sulcatas indoors can give you more ideas too, Nikki, Marissa, EJ, Giovanni or any of the regular posters here at the forum.
I think Lisa already grew some edible stuff from Turtle Cafe for her little sulcata.
I can't seem to get through to the Turtle Cafe web site, so hopefully somebody else can link it for you, and give you some more food ideas.
Hope this helps,
Terry.
