In Reply to: Can sulcata torts survive a 3 day usps journey?? help! posted by Christy on December 20, 2000 at 11:19:56:
Well, I guess if you had posted originally that you were expecting them by UPS and not buying them locally I would have cautioned you against purchasing for shipping until the spring when weather is safer. Turtle Homes ships tons of turtles and tortoises throughout the year but cuts off shipping as of 12/1 and resumes again in the spring around April/May due to the weather being harsh and problems with overnight services. Tortoises can survive a multitude of situations, but it all depends on circumstance. Such as, were there heat packs in the box and were they 48-hour packs at least? Were the tortoises packed properly and insulated against cold in their box? Will the box be in a temperature-controlled room overnights or will it be left on a shipping dock somewhere? I can almost guarantee if the box is left outside for an extended period of time it will not bode well for your two babies. Also, these are babies we are talking about that are ultimatley more fragile than the adults. NOt a good situation. Your dealer really should have been more responsible and either recommended same-day Delta Dash in this weather or at least overnight a.m. delivery.
