Ya know, some ppl are ignorant by nature...others by choice.
I hope you aren't at all serious about at all TOUCHING let alone harming a federally protected animal.
Gopherus (Xerobates) agassizii is vigorously protected by both state and federal laws, and should I catch
someone like you in my neck of the woods (Mojave Desert) I'll be MORE than happy to escort you to the nearest
F&G Warden or Law Enforcement officer, where the book will be thrown at you SO hard you'll wish you'd never
even entertained the thought...

The laws in a nutshell:
Under the provisions of the Endangered Species Act, anyone who "takes" a desert tortoise is subject to
civil and/or criminal penalties of up to a $100,000 fine or one year in jail, or both. The law defines "taking"
as harassing, pursuing, hunting, shooting, wounding, killing, trapping, capturing, or collecting, or attempting
to engage in such activities.
