60 watt's is pushing it for only a 10 gallon.
The sooner the better to get him out of there.
Keep it on one side as much as possible, even
elevate it slightly off of the screen if you
can. That way you could keep those bulbs for
right now, otherwise I'd use a 25 watt at night
a night bulb leaving it on all night of course.
Maybe a 40 depending on how cool your house gets.
If the bulb is overheating the tank quickly,
which I can imagine, is that why you're turning it
on and off or what?? Sorry if I'm confused, but
that's what it sounds like to me. You could
leave it on all the time, just get it slightly
further away. I was just explaining this to
somebody on the "Kingsnake" (actually Kingsnakes)
forum, and included a picture. And that was for
a 20 gallon long tank. Hang on...
