: : Today I adopted a Russian Tortoise from a very nice family who had the misfortune of taking their tortoise to the vet for a checkup. He advised them to stop letting the tort walk around their backyard and instead keep it in a GLASS aquarium with HIGH humidity. They should feed the tortoise FRUIT and CRICKETS/WORMS. The result of which is that I now have in my possession a very unhappy tortoise with a nice case of worms. What blows

Sorry, Ed, I don't want to list the name of the location, because I don't know the exact vet that treated the animal and there may very well be some good vets there. I don't like making blanket statements about one particular location without all the facts. I'm sure you agree that the NYTTS is a reputable organization and I don't think they make vet reccomendations randomly. My goal is to raise awareness that it is up to us who care about these animals to keep the vets informed.
: my mind is that this is a vet that is listed on
: the webpage for the NY turtle and tort society. Lets encourage individuals and organizations to send information out to these ignorant veterinarians so that no more torts have to suffer. A reptile vet should know the difference between box turtle and a russian tortoise, otherwise why do we go to them?
