: hi, i have 2 rissian tortoises, sub adults, they are looking good, except, the smaller male, is intimidated, by the larger more active female, i havn't seem him eat yet, and the female eats as soon as she sees food enter her tank. the male just hides in his shell all day is the male,ok, or should he be seperated, they are in a 30 gal tank.
: thanx!

i would sepperate them during feeding time so the smaller one isn't intimitated by your larger female. have both of your torts been vet checked?
i would try to make a larger enclosur than a 30 gallon tank its to small for just one tort. i have a female that lives most of the time in a under bed sweater container and in my opinion that is to small for her. i just made a 2' x 4' enclosure that my tort can move around in more freely during the winter months. i want to hibrinate her but i don't have a good place to do it as of right now. the best i can do is put her by the draftiest window we have and that slows her down a bit but it doesn't get her to hibrinate.
