: I have raised Tortellini and Antonio, African Spurs, since three weeks old. I lost Tortellini, my pride and joy female, two weeks ago to what we think was a respirtory infection. She would have been 4 this Christmas.I am located in South Florida. I don't want to lose Antonio so I built a hutch and wrapped it in tar paper and layed roof shingles on top to keep out moisture and installed a ceramic heating element. I also put some hay inside.
: Do you suggest anything else? I have a pig blanket on order as well. I am also in search of a new mate for him. He weighed in at 14lbs last month. Tortellini was almost 35lbs which I am told was extraordinary for her age. I am interested in getting in touch with other Sulcata owners in the Ft. Lauderdale area.

I am sorry for your loss but there is something else that I felt I needed to point out. Are you certain that Tortellini died from a respritory infection? You mentioned that she was almost 4 years old and 35 pounds. This is very extraordinary for a Sulcatta. There are many health problems that can be associated with such rapid growth. I would venture to say that even 14 pounds for a 4 year old tortoise is a bit much. I would reccomend that you take a look at some of the links referring to Sulcattas regarding proper care and diet.
