: 1. Sulcatas are active inquisitive tortoises, sleeping
: all the time is NOT normal. Can you describe how he's
: being kept in more detail (cage size, heating, light,
: and what you feed him) please, this may help figure
: out a possible reason he's acting this way apart from
: actual illness. Are there any other "symptoms"??
: 2. Please wait until you get more experience with
: you current tortoises before considering getting yet
: another one. This is a very common mistake people make
: getting too many too soon. With some animals like
: tarantulas, geckos or snakes, it's not that tricky,
: but tortoises especially redfoots and sulcatas require
: tremendous amounts of space and care. Don't think
: of them in their baby state only now. Please wait.
My sulcata is only a little over two inches long right now and is kept in a tweenty gallon enclosure, I have a fifty gallon one waiting for him when he is a little bigger. The cage is kept at about eighty two during the day and goes down to about seventy five at night. He has been eating okay when I let him go out in the yard which during the winter I can only do for a couple of hours a day. I have been putting grass and cut clovers and some rose petals in his cage, but he does not seem to be eating them. Please help I'm very worried about him!!!!
