Pyramiding is when their shell grow disproportionatly,
and doesn't stay smooth (like a bowling ball sorta), but
rather becomes bumpy even to the point of pointy
looking pyramids all over the shell. Some tortoise
types are supposed to be "lumpy", sulcatas aren't.
As to the cause, it is scientifically proven to
be caused by improper diet (too much protein), not
enough heat, everything and nothing. Basically the
jury is still out on the cause, though many will say
otherwise.

You really can't sex Sulcatas until they're almost
12 inches in shell length. Before that and it's a
guess.
