my little redfoot (Rio) lives in a 50 gallon rubbermaid on cypress mulch. I keep a room humidifier nearby, and in addition, I use a hand mister, and fogger daily. Plus i cover a large portion of the top with plexiglass to help stabilize heat and humidity. I don't have a humidity guauge yet though, so I'm not sure how my efforts are working.
But,
Has it been clearly established that redfoots need high humidity? AC Highfield, in his Practical Encyclopedia of Keeping and Breeding Tortoises and Freshwater Turtles states that redfoots inhabit "grassland savannanh and drier forest habitats throughout South America. In only a few localities do they impinge upon true tropical rainforest habitats. In captivity, a moderately dry environment and temperatures in the range of 21C(night) - 27C(day) will suit most specimens."
