The way I figure it is Torts have evolved over millions of years with out being soaked in oil. It just amazes me how we humans sometimes think we know what is best.

: Many people seem to like to "polish" up their tortoises with shell conditioners, oils, etc. I "personally" believe that this is not only totally unnecessary but have come to believe through reading and researching that it can lead to buildup of gunk on the carapace which can't be good and can trap bacteria, etc. against the shell. I wouldn't advise following your buddy's lead. Sounds like you are doing it the right way
