There are no true native tortoises in Australia. There are several aquatic (and non-aquatic) species of turtles, however, which are often called tortoises. For example, I believe the snake-necked turtle is terrestrial, and may be sometimes called a tortoise by native Australians. But true tortoises do not exist in that region. Hope that helps.
