In Reply to: My Russian Tortoise Is Having Trouble Breathing. HELP! posted by Tiffany on November 11, 2000 at 01:16:32:
Your tortoise is in dire need of a vet. Drop this girl Annie a note at scorps1@earthlink.net for some recomendations in your area for a vet. She's a fruitcake but she really knows her stuff. If she can't help you I'm sure she can tell you someone who can.
Keep it very warm and well hydrated.
Good luck.
: I have a female Russian tortoise. She is approximately a year or two old. We live in the Mojave Desert in California. We have never had a problem with her, however yesterday I noticed that she seems to be gasping for air with a rattling sound in her chest and her eyes are kind of watery. Today her nose started to run slightly. I can see that she is getting sick but what can I do? We had Desert Tortoises that got sick once. The vet told us to give them shots of Penicillin, which we did; but they died shortly afterwards. I have been searching for information on respiratory infections with little success. Does anyone have any advice? Right now the tortoise has been brought in the house and is under a light, and seems to be loosing her appetite. Please help if you can. If you have any questions please ask.
