Why should we have to be thick-skinned?

Why on earth should someone who is asking for help on this forum have to be thick-skinned? You people make it a habit to criticize people harshly, when simply answering questions to the best of your ability, regardless of how inane they seem, will suffice. It's no wonder people drop in and then out so often. Is being polite to people who defer to your superior knowledge (and I admit, your knowledge is sometimes astounding) too much to ask? Apparently so. I read what you write, but I rarely participate. And that is sad.
