The correct common name for Geochelone sulcata is:
The African Spurred tortoise.
It is a very common mistake to see it refered to as the spur thighed tortoise.
The spur thighed tortoise is a completely different tortoise altogether.
This makes everything very confusing, but it's such a common mistake that there's not much that can be done.
If you have a sulcata you have an African spurred tortoise, not a spur thighed tortoise.
Even at the web site linked below thay have mistakenly called sulcatas, spur thighed.
If you are in doubt as to which species you have, check out the photos linked below.
