It depends on what you want in a tortoise. I like red-foots and hermanns because they don't get too big but have friendly personalities. Sulcata's are very endearing, but as you may well be aware, most people think that they are too big for most people to keep. But hey, if big is your thing, then more power to you. Leopard tortoises are not as big as sulcata's, but still require a lot of room (fourth largest tortoise in the world)and can be shy. Hingebacks are small and cool, but they eat some meat, and I think they smell bad. The less commonly kept tortoises include pancakes, star, geometric, radiated, and perhaps egyptian. You can read all about these in any number of publications. You need to figure out what is right for you: inside, outside; omnivore, herbivore; big, little, medium. What do you want in a tortoise?
