Every year dogs are responsible for maiming or killing many tortoises/turtles.
Just as Georgia said all might seem okay, then one day the tortoise is injured or dead.
It happens time after time to people who insisted that their dogs had no interest in the tortoise.

My largest and most gentle dog managed to jump over a 3' wall into my leopard torts enclosure and start chewing on her.
Luckily I was in the yard and caught him in the act.
In less than 30 seconds he had managed to chew a couple of areas on her shell and nearly drew blood.
There's no doubt that if I hadn't caught the dog, the tortoise would have been severely injured or killed.
