Hey Tort folk,
I have been just losing my mind trying to figure out how to make the Reptarium suitable for young torts, and here is my additional design that will not only trap heat while still making it arid, but also will give you the flexability of using a store bought undertank heater, let you fill it with your favorite substrate (without making the black mesh filthy and ruining it) and also easy dis assemble for cleaning. This is transparent and doesn't spoil the look of probably the most visually pleasing vivarium on the market.
Here's what I did ( you will need a skill saw and a blade for cutting plexiglass).
I cut 2 pieces for the bottom, one for inside the mesh to rest beneath the pvc structure tubes, and one for a base with the 4 corners notched out, to rest as a platform above the tubes.
This gives about an inch and a half of space to put an undertank heater the would adhese to the platform piece of the 1/8 inch thick plexiglass.
The platform base is attached to the tubes with velcro. All around on all 4 sides, is 4 inch high cut plexiglass that is attached to the vertical poles by velcro.
As you can see by the photo, it almost appears that a clear tub is inside the Reptarium.
I will be blasting it the next few days with heavy over the top ceramic heat to make sure the plexglass holds up, before I put a creature inside.
It looks to be a great design, thought I would share it after months of head scratching..lol
Ciao'
Giovanni
