Hi again TB.
I am obviously not a veterinarian! I do know however that Baytril is not a dewormer it's an antibiotic.
I really am not well educated when it comes to all the different drugs and their uses.I only know which drugs were prescribed by my vet, for a couple of different health problems.
Luckily my torts/turts have been very healthy so I have not become familiar with more than a couple. Baytril and Panacur.
Thanks for explaining that Baytril is not effective against true viruses.
I think this further proves that lay men, such as myself, should NOT be using presciption drugs unless prescribed by a vet!
It's easy to become a bit confused, which could result in a tragic mistake.
Terry.
::: Hi Terry
: Just to avoid any further confusion I thought it should be pointed out that Enrofloxacin is not actually effective against true viruses. Baytril works by inhibiting bacterial enzymes. It is however useful against Mycoplasmas which are often referred to as "virus-like" due to their lack of cell wall and also against Chlamydia which reproduces inside a host cell similar to the way a virus does. Despite some similarities neither of these organisms are viruses. That may be what caused your confusion.
