Hi T.B.
I was giving the poster the benefit of the doubt, I wasn't sure if a vet was involved, or not.
I really couldn't see a vet prescribing Baytril for nematodes either.
I think this is a reminder to all, to always seek a veterinarian not try home remedies or administer drugs without them being prescribed by a vet.
Without all the details I didn't want to be too harsh, I sympathize with him for the loss of the tortoise.
However I believe the whole incident could have been avoided, had the tortoise been taken to a qualified vet. Very sad.
::::: I found it unclear from the original post whether a vet was even involved in the diagnosis and prescription. The poster did however mention *his* years of experience and how *he* had relied on Baytril for treating worms. Baytril is a one of the most widely prescribed veterinary antibiotics and I find it very difficult to imagine any vet making that mistake. It compounds this tragedy to think that this animal was lost through the folly of "home" treatment with prescription drugs without veterinary consultation.
