What Elizabeth said is definitely true...some tortoises that require high humidity can do well, but not in a tank that small. ANd only high-humidity torts for an enclosed environment like that. For most land torts, glass is not a good way to house because it traps heat and not only does not allow for cross-ventilation, but it traps the heat from the basking spot and evenly disperses it around the tank. This prevents temperture gradients (cool zone, hot zone) and makes the whole tank one temperature, usually too hot as well. The tortoise cannot then thermoregulate properly and many times they dehydrate, causing other health problems. Tortoises require (IMHO) alot more care and special arrangements than aquatics (I keep both) and I would not recommend getting one unless you are able to provide proper housing. HOwever, WITH proper housing and diet, land tortoises are great pets. If you need further explanation, I will be happy to help in any way I can :)
