Hi,
baytril is an antibiotic not a deworming drug, It's used for bacterial or respiratory
infections.
If you gave baytril in a dosage you would normaly use for a deworming drug ( such as Panacur) you could have overdosed the tortoise, baytril is NOT a deworming drug, it is an antibiotic.
For worms Panacur is the drug of choice, panacur has a wide safelty margin but should still be prescribed by a qualified vet.
NEVER use the drug IVERMECTIN in tortoises/turtles, although safe to use on other reptiles IVERMECTIN is lethal to tortoises.
Why your vet prescribed Baytril for a parasite infestation is a mystery, it's in fact unbelievable. I think you should consider changing vets.
I'm very sorry you lost your tortoises how tragic for you. But I think that you must, confront your vet and ask why he prescribed an antibiotic for worms.
Terry.
