I just lost My best friend in the whole world
My juveinle Galapagos Island SaddleBack Tortoise,
His name was Ivan, and he was a little under 2 yrs old.
I have 15 yrs experience, with reptiles and baytrill
has always been my weapon of chioce to fight infection
or worms. Ivan had worms. He was injected with a proper dosage.
and in less then 18 hrs later he was dead. This was a perfectly
healthy little guy. We followed all the rules to the letter.
So this was complete shock. A necropsy showed no evident signs
of what happend. I have had liver samples sent out. and it will
be a while before i get the results. Meanwhile this is tearing me up
inside.
As i feal like i betrayed my friends trust. In all my yrs i
have never met a more out going, personable, people oriented,
people loving tortoise. I just needed to talk to other people
that understand the friendship between reptiles and there
keepers. As most people that i know ...have no understanding.
No kidding, my dad died...not a tear form me...then my mother...same thing
but as soon as i came to the horrible reality that my best
best friend would no longer come clomping along the floor
to me to get his favorite part of his neck scratched, or that
i would never get to feed him agian, I started bawling like a baby.
its been a week since this has happend. And i cant get over it.
i think its because no understands around here. So thank you
for letting me cry on your shoulders.
I also need to know, if any one else has had this experience
with baytril "enrofloxacin". If you have please let me know
i need to know if this was just a fluke. I do not want this to happen
to any of my other tortoises.
Thank You.
