John...we have hibernated our three boxes in an animal carrier full of green spagum moss. Their house/carrier is left in thier area unless we our expecting rain. It is closed up during the night to protect against nosy critters and opened during the day. They can easily get out, we can check on them and ocassionaly mist the moss to keep it slightly moist. They barry themslves in it usually all in a row. We have been doing hibernation this way for the past three years and have been successful. Try the box turtle forum for more info.
