Sounds good. So who are the breeders, and what are their phone numbers etc.? I'm in Brooklyn, NY. I want a female. to go with my 15 lb male.

: Don't spend the money on the tort in the store, unless you are really attached to that one. You can save a bundle buying straight from a breeder and spend the extra cash on a suitable habitat for a redfoot. They are a great beginner tort, but even a beginner tort needs alot of care. If you still haven't found out adequate care sheets or books on redfoots let me know. R.C. Paul has a new book out dedicated to redfoots only. I have heard good things about this book.

: Take care,

: : This is my first post to kingsnake.com, I found this

: : place while searching the 'Net for information on

: : "Red Foot Tortoises." I saw one for the first time

: : in a pet store (price tag= US$249.98) and wanted

: : to know if they were suitable for beginner tort

: : keepers? I have kept pond sliders and box turtles,

: : but the pet store had no books on these animals and

: : I don't know how much their needs differ (I gather

: : they would need a vastly different environment

: : than a slider, though!)

: : I would also like to know how large they get, the

: : one in the store was about three inches. He was

: : a really cute little guy, though :-)

: : I've kept snakes and lizards for eight years now,

: : so I'm not completely new to herp keeping in general,

: : but if someone could point me to sources specifally

: : about this tortoise I would appreciate it. I want

: : to know more before I consider purchasing him

: : (including finding out if his price is too high, I

: : know pet stores sometimes jack up the amount an

: : animal is worth)

: : Thanks a million!
