I recently bought a russian tortoise from a pet
store. I love the little guy to death but just
took him to the vet to de-worm him. He also
needs blood work done as his kidneys are in
question. He's a durable little fellow but as
as I found out ($180 later) Heating is a crucial
issue. His temp was 76 weight 299gr. It seems
that he's not hot enough so he doesn't eat because
he can't digest his food thus causing worms and
low weight. I am hoping that his blood tests are
ok, have built him an indoor pen (the size of my
kitchen, he's so spoiled!) and have purchased 2
basking lights, and under tank heater and a heat
rock which I've been advised not to use.
I would suggest to all you turtle/tortoise lovers
that you go to the California Tortoise Society
website. Even if you aren't native, they seem
to have the most sensible, accurate and viable info
I have found. See link below and GOOD LUCK!!
