sorry, you got me wondering so i went and measured. he is right at 18 inches.
also, i don't know how much of a role it played, but the spurs were allowed to dig a burrow which they started at around 3 years old. before that, they just hid under bushes and/or inside a hide box. the original tunnel is now (just a guess) 10-12 feet long and 3-4 feet deep. a single 12 inch female was added in the pen last year. she hid under a bush for about six months then took over the tunnel, booting both males out. since then, i've sold (not enough grazing area for three) one of the males and the other has just recently started a new hole. pretty interesting how the males just stepped aside and let the female take over their work.
sorry to go off to a completely different subject, but anyways.......
