yeah, they grew pretty quick and (suprisingly) without pyramiding. they are now nearly 6 years and have slowed down quite a bit. they've only put on about 4 or 5 inches (they're between 18 and 20 inches)in the last year-year and a half. they were in an outdoor pen since hatching with a wide variety of grasses and weeds for a constant supply of food. they're in florida, so they've been outside almost year round. they've been supplemented with many veggies (mainly romaine) atleast 4 times a week, and get mazuri tortoise chow once a week.
i was pretty convinced that protein was the main culprit in pyramiding, but now with these guys and a few other animals, i'm starting to lean toward the humidity/protein combination factor. with this growth rate and lack of pyramiding, could it be the year round 60-100% humidity? i'm in no way starting a conflict thing here again, but i do agree with EJ and AC that we need to consider other factors.
anyways, i'll get off that now. don't really wanna go there. seems to be a bad subject here. hope you enjoyed the pics.
