I use it in both arid and moist enclosures. It dries out fairly quickly. It comes slightly moist but not damp. By morning the enclosure is dry and I add my ibera.
I have baby box turtles on it and it stays moist with water added.

: Aren't Russians a very arid species? How come Cypress Mulch is the best subtrate and it's so moist?
