Tortoises and all reptiles are really not "children's" pets. I do not recommend buying any turtle or tortoise strictly for a child. Reptiles are pets that need very specific setups and diets and care...and they don't love to be "played with" either. Unless you are going to completely in charge of the care of this animal, I would recommend going with a hamster or something.
