I have been reading everything I can find on "U V" lighting in preparation for my coming Sulcatas. From what I have read on related web pages, it takes up to 7 HOURS of exposure to most 24 inch UV bulbs (about 12 inches away) to get the same effect as 5 MINUTES of natural sunlight! What a comparison! I will go to great lengths to give my "boys" natural sunlight whenever possible. I think those "so-called" UV lights are only somewhat useful, and only if you live deep in a cave, or you're in solitary confinment, away from ANY sunlight, and are trying to raise reptiles! In other words, I think they are a tremendous waste of money! ($30.00 for a 18 inch Repti-sun bulb, what a joke, who set these prices, Saddam Hussein?) No "UV" bulbs for me,LET THE SUN SHINE, LET THE SUN SHINE, LET THE SUN SHINE, THE SUN, SHINE IN!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for listening B B P.S. From what i've read, I think the same feelings go for the so-called "Prepared" tortoise foods available. I haven't found anyone that recommends ANY store-bought tortoise food! Any other opinions?
