I have not used one very long, but it seems to be doing well. I asked around and most people seem to feel that they are safe. They definitely put out a lot more UV than flourescents. Go to their website for instructions on choosing the style and wattage if you haven't already. You have to balance the effective basking distance of the bulb with the heat output and the size of the cage so you don't provide too much heat for a given species within the optimum range of the bulb. Spots can focus the UV and heat to a single location, but floods would be better at providing UV over a wider area (ie not just at the basking spot). Good luck.

: HAs anyone had any bad luck using these bulbs, such as eye problems or the bulbs giving to much heat?.Just checking before i buy some myself they do sound great.
: THANKS
