: : Your Sulcatta seems so healthy. My vet has a patient who lives north of me (Sulcatta) who shows up a couple times a year with pneumonia)
: : Your Karl seems so healthy, what is the climate where you live (Italy? perhaps??)

: No, Jacksonville Florida. Karl is healthy because he is on a strict diet, is extremely loved and looked after so that things like pneumonia are not even an issue. I'm not a vet nor would I choose to even start diagnosing a problem, but immediately when I hear " the north" I think of cold and worse drafts, which could potentially lead to health issues of which you describe.

: *I find Karl so intriguing as well, So prehistoric and, well, handsome.

: Why yes he is, in fact if I was a female Giant African Spurred Tortoise, I would probably be all over him...lol.

: *I would like to have a Sulcatta when we move, but I am afraid of our winter climate and the fact that there is one living near me that gets pnemonia often.

: Well you need to really ask youself a question if you live in the NE, and that is " Am I going to be able to house a giant tortoise in the winter time and keep it healthy and active?" If you believe you can, then by all means go for it. Maybe though you would want a chelonian that would be easier to house in the winter and would top out a bit smaller then the size that Karl Kruizer is now, because he is only 13 and has about 150 more lbs to gain before he stops growing, or then again who knows. Just think about it before you do it.

: Owning a Sulcata Tortoise is like having a grand parent with a severe case of ALZHIEMER'S, you hope to God they know what they are doing during the day when your not around and pray they don't get lost.
