This is good advise.
It is possible that white flies could carry viruses etc.I am not shure.
Soappy water is actually good for the plant. In the soil it will open the roots capilaries to help it absorb more nutrients.
: Linda, if you don't want to use pesticides (for obvious reasons) you can try using diluted dish soap. Spray it on the foliage, particularly the underside, this is where the white fly eggs and nymphs can be found. This should help knock down the white flies without damaging the plants or you pets. Just wash the leaves and flowers off before feeding to your tortoises.
