I need to ask John if he knows of such information. It seems to me (and I know I could easily be in error) that warmer climate brings a greater amount of food available (as in "teeming with"). For example, a fallen tree here in NY can take 10 years or more to decay due to the microorganisms, but in the rain forest a tree can decay in 3-6 months. Seems to me there must be a correlation between prevailing temperature and amount of sustainable life of most forms.
