Kathy, what you have to understand is that the reference you cited is also an opinion and definately not proven fact.
Now think about this, There are outside ques that trigger hibernation. If those ques are not present or arrive early the animal does not hibernate or comes out of hibernation early. The point, if environmental factors are favorable the animal does not hibernate. It doesn't have to.
Another curious point is that not all populations of a particular species hibernate.
