What is wrong with my desert tortise?

I have had this tortise for about 6 years and he has been fine but now he is acting kind of strange. He keeps chewing on a medal ladder in the yard and he walks around bobbing his head up and down. He also keeps trying to get on top the ladder and sometimes he knocks himself upside down. Do you think he needs a girlfriend (LOL) or is there something wrong with him?
