I recently got a Russian Tortoise(~5-6 weeks ago). I already had two Desert Tortoises raised from hatchlings that had reached five years of age. The two species have been sharing the habitat. Have I erred in putting them together? The Desert Torts were extremely healthy and robust. Suddenly one has died and the other appears near death with an upper respiratory tract disease and eye inflammation. Three days ago, they were all fine. The Russian still appears very healthy.

Diet has been chopped broccoli, mustard or collard greens, occasional lettuces, fruits, flowers. Weekly vitamin C supplements provided. I don't think anything poisonous has been provided to them. In addition to apple seeds, what are other known poisonous foodstuffs? Is it more likely that the russian carries a virus that is fatal to the desert tortoises?
