Wendy,
I also have a very active bell's hingeback. I fortunatly also have a female for him. She can't be out of his sight. He follows her everywhere. Whenever she tries to eat, he mounts her. Early in the summer, I tied to put both in my outdoor enclosure ( with several other kinds of tortises) but the male hingeback attacked any other tortise that came between him and his gal. I even saw him attack an 8 lb. leopard tortise and tried to flip it over. When that did not work, he bit the leopard on the foot. I had to remove both the Bell's from the enclosure and only put them out alone. I had no idea that the male could be so aggressive. Next summer I will build the Bell's their own enclosure. One more thing I should mention, the male bell once mounted the wrong end of the female and she bit his penis badly enough to cause a good deal of blood loss. I was very concerned for several weeks but he seems to be fine now. He is a bit less likely to mount her now though.
