I would call all forms of G. elegans adapted to arid zones - at least to some extent. Even in Sri Lankan habitat, parts of the year are extremly dry. Naturally not as dry as the Thar or in Khacch, but dry nevertheless.
Follow the attched link for aome photos. The habitat pictures are from the very edges of the Thar, some distance from Pakistan. The Ajmer tortoise should look very similar to Pakistani specimens.
